Below is a summary of current Cucurbit plant family taxonomy (grouping of genera and species). The family is divided into 15 tribes, with cultivated species dispersed across 9 tribes, but mainly concentrated in three: Sicyoeae (Loofah and Chayote), Beninacaseae (gourds, cucumber, cantaloupe+sweet melons and watermelon) and Cucurbiteae (squash). Most of the information comes from Wikipedia, but has been edited based on other scientific literature. EDIB=edible; HALL=hallucinogenic; MED=medicinal; ORN=ornamental.
